Director Zhang Yuan-rong became a member of a Lion Formation theatre when he was 12, so that he is most skillful in the lion dance and martial arts. In 1988, because of his passion, persistence, and a sense of mission, he established the Hung Sheng Lion Dance Theatre, working hard to preserve traditional folk culture and pass on the Lion Formation skills. Director Zhang never ceases to strive for innovation and breakthroughs in his performances. He also rearranged the music, expanding the traditional supporting roles of cymbals and drums in the music for traditional religious festivals and folk performances. This also serves to enhance the martial arts. His innovate “Lion Formation e with Cymbals and Drums” enriches the performance art of the lion formation , instilling it with vigor. In addition, he combines the dragon formation, Pat-ka-tsiong , acrobatics and other traditional folk performances to highlight its variety and rich content, refining this traditional art in a wide range of performances.
