The Jing-Ju Opera Troupe of National Taiwan College of Performing Arts was formerly known as the Fuxing National Opera Troupe, founded in 1963 by Wang Zhen-zhu. In 2006, the school was upgraded to a college, hence, the name changed accordingly. It is the oldest Peking Opera troupe in Taiwan. It has been on international tours several times representing the country, traveling to more than thirty countries. Members of the troupe are mainly outstanding alumni. In addition to carrying on the traditional repertoire, they have also cooperated with different genres of arts, creating inspirational plays. Rashomon, adapted from Akutagawa Ryūnosuke’s short story In a Grove (Yabu no Naka) and Kurosawa Akira’s movie of the same title (1998) and Snow in August, a script collaborated with the Nobel laureate Gao Xing-jian, all received positive reviews.
