The Puppet and Its Double Theater was founded in September 1999. Upholding the experimental spirit of “promoting puppetry in a modern theatre”, the company is active in making an abundance of innovative productions, creating an infinite supply of imagination by using puppets as a form of modern media, and vigorously promoting free space for “contemporary puppet shows” in the contemporary performing arts. The Puppet and Its Double Theater is skilled at breathing emotions and soulfulness into puppet shows, discovering unprecedented and delicate interpretations of puppetry, and creating harmonious and touching human-puppet interaction. The styles of puppets used include hand puppets, string puppets, rod puppets, tabletop puppets, shadow puppets, object theater, and the combination of puppet and actor performing on the same stage. The troupe has found a way to interact with audiences of all ages, including children and adults. Famed for various forms of puppet shows as well as for professional and exquisite skills in manipulating puppets, the Puppet and Its Double Theater boasts creative styles and looks alongside its talent of poetic interpretation form an imaginary space which “human” actors are unable to create, thereby manifesting the value of puppets existence. The company, recognized as a characteristic, multifaceted, and transnational contemporary theatre based in Taiwan, is frequently invited to perform at international art festivals.
