The Taipei Puppet Theater was founded in 2010, inspired by the Taiwanese national-treasure puppet master, Li Tien-lu, who was a protégé of Chen Hsi-huang and Mr. Li Chuan-tsan, with the mission of preserving the traditional puppetry performing arts, enhancing the standard of puppetry performances, and recreating an international platform for Taiwanese puppetry.
The majority of puppeteers and other staff members in the Taipei Puppet Theater belong to the mid-generation in terms of age, have learned puppetry for over 15 years on average, aspire to continue and pass down traditional puppetry, and represent one of the vigorous new-generation puppetry troupes in Taiwan.
The Taipei Puppet Theater espouses the spirit of inheriting traditional arts and creating exquisite arts in the search for tradition, discovering tradition, exercising rich experiences accumulated from previous arts learning and cultivation, upholding conscientious and meticulous policies of production, employing diverse and versatile artistic characteristics of puppet stage performances, creating more subtle and exquisite manners of performances in a way which is not restricted to the styles and formats of traditional glove puppetry, and attracting more theatergoers to experience an unprecedented feast of glove puppetry.
