The Miao-Li Chen Family Beiguan Ba-yin Group was founded by the Hakka Ba-yin master Chen Chao-san over a century ago. Led by the third-generation successor Chen Ching-sung, the group's footprints were found all over Hsinchu, Miaoli, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Hualien in the period from 1945 to 1983, which was the heyday of the “Hakka Ba-yin” . The Miao-Li Chen Family Beiguan Ba-yin Group is a golden signage of Ba-yin in the Miaoli Hakka community. Mr. Chen Ching-sung is recognized as a master whose skill was unmatched in his generation in the circle of Hakka Ba-yin.
The group was the winner of the “3rd Folk Art Heritage Awards” accorded by the Ministry of Education in 1987. In 2009, it was registered as a preservation organization of “Hakka Ba-yin” in the traditional arts category of “intangible cultural assets in Miaoli County”, and in 2010 it was named as a preservation organization of “Hakka Ba-yin” in the important traditional arts category of national-level “intangible cultural assets”.
