String Puppetry is a kind of traditional puppet show. In Taiwan, String Puppetry can only be found in Yilan, Kaohsiung, and Jinmen, but they derive from two different schools. Marionette performances are staged primarily for religious rituals. While in the north they serve as a ritual to ward off disasters and dissolving adversities, the school in Kaohsiung and Jinmen performs for religious rituals of thanksgiving.
