In the Song Dynasty, Di Qing, one of the Five Great Generals, was sent with others to the Western Region to fight against the barbarians when he accidentally entered the territory of Dan Dan Kingdom where he marries Princess Ba-bao (Eight Treasures). Being wrongly accused by two evil court officials, Pang Hong and Sun Xiu, Di Qing’s mother is put in prison. Di Qing has to continue his battle against the Western Liao to prove his outstanding military service. He soon conquers two passes and reaches White Crane Pass, where he defeats the four generals under the leadership of Hei Li, the consort prince of the Western Liao. Soon the ruler of Liao appoints Commandar Xing Xing Luo Hai of Red Mud City to lead the troops in a siege of Di Qing. Though the four generals who serve under the command of Xing Xing Luo Hai are unable to defeat the Five Great Generals of Di Qing, the later ones have never successfully defeated Xing Xing Luo Hai. The Song army therefore finds itself in great danger. Di Qing is forced to call for a truce and sends his subordinate, Liu Qing, to Dan Dan Kingdom, hoping Princess Ba-bao will come to their rescue out of love for her husband. When the princess learns about her husband’s plight, she bids farewell to her mother and leads the army onto the battlefield without letting her father, the king, know about it. Princess Ba-bao eventually defeats Xing Xing Luo Hai and kills many Liao generals, so the crisis of White Crane Pass comes to an end. Di Qing is reunited with his wife and after the couple tells each other of their feelings while separated, Di Qing continues to fight in his battles in the Western Region.
