Publicized recordings and digital data about the Li Chuen Yuan’s history are selected from the music club’s collection of historical sound recordings based on the suitability of these songs and operas for republication.The new publications feature several types of songs in the performing culture of Beiguan music as well as historical moments from the Li Chuen Yuan’s performances over the past fifty years. The publications give the public a penetrating insight into the arts of Beiguan music in Central Taiwan.
Operas selected for publication include See off My Younger Sister, a Boisterous Morning, Riches, Honor, a Long Spring, and Take off the Combat Vest, all of which feature different musical types and styles. Silk and bamboo ensemble musical offerings selected for publication include Raising Head, Ascend the Little Tower, the Coming Spring Season, Spring Scenery, the General’s Command, a Strand of Hundreds of Flowers, the Song of Victory, and the Spring Melody of Hundreds of Families.
The show Remove the Combat Vest was selected from a show of the legendary story entitled Tablet of the Crowded Bed, which depicts the story of Great General Kuo Tzu-i. When Kuo Tzu-i returned to the city of the emperor after suppressing the An Shi Rebellion, the emperor intended to help remove Kuo Tzu-i’s combat vest in the presence of all the officials in the palace to show commendation for Kuo Tzu-i’s glorious feat. After encountering several refusals from Kuo Tzu-i, the emperor finally assigned Li Bai and Gong Jing to remove Kuo Tzu-i’s combat vest on his behalf.
