This play is adapted from Marriage of Two Phoenixes by Zeng Xian-zhi, recipient of the Hakka Contribution Award. It tells the story of Sun Wen-hua and Wang Shu-zhen, engaged in childhood and their subsequent stories. When they grow up, parents from both sides have passed away. Older brother Wang Ming-gun has become the patriarch. The Sun family, on the other hand, has lost all their fortune in a fire. Down and out, Sun Wen-hua has to fish and chop wood for a living. Despising Sun's poverty, Wang Ming-gun intends to revoke the engagement, forcing Wen-hua to sign an agreement of annulment. With the clever help of their maid Qiu-chan and servant Xian-cong, Wen-hua and Shu-zhen overcame obstacles and end up getting married.
This play casts Li Wen-xun and Jiang Yan-li as the leading roles. Though of the younger generation, both graduated from the Fuxing School of Theater and received 8 full years of training. Li Wen-xun himself hails from a theater family, providing him with much experience in acting. The chou(comic characters), Wang Ming-gun was played by the playwright/director himself of this production, Zeng Xian-zhi. The musical score preserves authentic Hakka mountain songs and the new expanded orchestra added momentum to the musical score with vigor rhythms than those of traditional skits.
