A sadistic landlord installs hidden cameras in the old apartments to peep on his tenants: a lusty gymnastics teacher, a divorced father living with his daughter, a college geek, a gay couple, an office lady who often gets into tangled relationships, and a mysterious writer. Secrets and desires play out like a show on the landlord’s screen, and he begins to manipulate them into greater perversions that eventually builds towards twisted chaos.
Based on popular Taiwanese writer Giddens KO's novel of the same name, this black comedy-fantasy-mystery drama set down its marker amid the youthful romantic Taiwanese films popular in recent years, becoming one of the biggest films of 2016. In the film, unimaginable methods of murder are carried out. The meticulous production designs and symphonic score successfully create the uncomfortable, eerie atmosphere the story requires. The sensual narrative begins to dominate the film as the landlord and his tenants remove their social masks, and in the end all turns into a requiem for humanity.
