Born in Hsinchu in 1940, CHIN Mei was the most popular leading lady during the heyday of Taiwanese-language cinema in the 1960s. She started as a singer in a vaudeville troupe, and later broke into film playing a songstress in a musical comedy. Soon, her natural talent in authentically portraying a character’s emotions grasped the attention of renowned directors such as HSIN Chi and LIN Fu-Ti, who gave her leading roles in one film after another. Throughout her acting career, she made over 80 films in total. However, when Taiwanese-language cinema went into decline at the end of 1960s, she made the transition to television and later became a producer behind the camera. Through archive footage and interviews with her son and former colleagues, the film captures some of the most glamorous moments not only in her personal life, but in the history of Taiwanese-language cinema.
