An elderly man shuffles through a spacious hospital, his left hand holding a drip that disappears into his right arm. Later he lies sleeping, restlessly, wrapped in pink sheets. These shots are accompanied by the filmmaker’s poignant voiceover: “Your health deteriorated. Your hospital stays increased. Whenever I came to see you, I felt especially lonely and incredibly sad."
In this highly personal film, the director records her father’s struggle with cancer. She accompanies him to examinations and treatments and keeps him company during the unbearably long waiting hours. As a sequel to Hard Good Life (2003), another portrait of her father, this film employs carefully composed shots with respectful distance, depicting the unbreakable bond in a complex father-daughter relationship.
