Designed in the United States and made in Japan, a nuclear power plant is being built in Gongliao, a township at the northeastern tip of Taiwan. The fishermen who live there were never consulted and suddenly found their rights to fishing being taken away, along with the livelihood they have held for generations. In over ten years of struggle, babies have been born and people have died. Some youngsters who participated in the protests have even been imprisoned. In the name of economic development, the environment and the safety of local residents are often sacrificed in pursuit of maximizing profit. While injustice and unrecoverable harm caused to the people have become norms under the expansion of capitalist modernity, the people of Gongliao still choose to struggle against it.
