With the arrival of summer, 17-year-old Kang-Yi returns to a shady neighborhood by Keelung Harbor to spend her summer vacation at the blind massage parlor run by her father and step-mother. Under the dim lights of the massage parlor, the blind masseurs and gangsters struggle alongside each other for survival in a cruel and unforgiving world. Everything changes when the young and handsome mainlander A-Ping bursts into Kang-Yi’s life, giving her a glimpse of light amid the darkness.
Applying a realistic approach, director CHANG Tso-Chi implicitly expresses his concern for people from the lowest ranks of society while faithfully illustrating the subtle relationships between people from different origins and ethnic groups. Once again, the director demonstrates his expertise in bringing out the potential of amateur actors, guiding the film’s lead, LEE Kang-Yi, to a nomination for Best Leading Actress at the Golden Horse Awards in her debut performance.
