This film takes its title from ZHENG Chou-Yu’s renowned poem, Port of Mists. It explores a poet’s existence and his unending pursuit of the life experience of a “pure poet”, as opposed a poet whose poems are merely popular. The film incorporates many historical images and contains interviews with such major Taiwanese poets as Hsin Yu, Ya Hsien, and Chu Ko, bringing back to life the philosophical battle between the "lateral transplantation" and "vertical transmission" schools of poetry that prevailed at that time.
Taking poetry and history as its central themes, the film's narrative may seem bland but is actually full of moving moments. ZHENG Chou-Yu has expressed his admiration and affirmation of the director for "exploring not just my academic record, but also my entire personal flavor”.
