Nimbus explores the ecology of the landscape of Kouhu Township and the lives of its people. Kouhu, a small town along the west coast of Taiwan, is a place where land disappears and reappears through the course of history. Over 100 years ago Kouhu was documented as an area of wetlands and lagoons. Gradually the lagoons disappeared, replaced by fertile land. 20 years ago, however, nature repeated its cycle. Wetlands reappeared, turning the residents of Kouhu into “climate refugees.” What visitors regard as beautiful scenery, full of charm, is in fact a sorrow and burden for the local residents. While nature gave the land a chance to breathe and recuperate, the residents who were forced to relocate carry the memory of their impoverished homeland.
