‘‘Attabu” comes from the language of the Pingpu aboriginals. The seemingly unfamiliar term of the “Attabu LIN Family” in fact refers to the Wufeng LIN Family, one of the five notable clans in Taiwan. The movie focuses on the history of the LIN family, and provides an overview of 200 years of historical changes in Taiwan on both a micro and macroscale, demonstrating how the two are tightly intertwined with one another.
Attabu integrated forces from three fields: fiction film, documentary, and academia, and took five years to complete. Attabu uses voice-over narration with images that present dramatized reenactments of actual events. The screenwriter spent considerable time and energy doing textual analyses of historical material so that the film pays close attention to historical details.
